Archaeology

The archaeological collection of Nitra Regional Museum consists of 3842 pieces, registered collection items and other numerous non-collection items that are part of the auxiliary inventory. The archaeological collection consists of authentic collection items which document a period of time from the older prehistory (young Paleolithic, about 23 000 years BC) to the modern age (17th – 18th centuries). The acquired museals include stone chipped and smoothed industry, raw materials and semi-finished products, utility and funeral ceramics, metal, bone and clay artifacts – tools, weapons and daily necessities, jewelry, clothing, plaques, coins, building elements, tiles, bricks, fragments of mortar and grease and numerous shard material as well as animal bones and skeletal remains of a man. The auxiliary inventory also includes copies of archaeological material monuments (jewelery, tools, weapons), 3D models (reconstructions of dwellings, sacral objects) as well as replicas of period clothing and their components. Archaeological collections are mainly the result of our own research, as well as field research carried out in cooperation with other institutions, especially with the Archaeological Institute of the Slovak Academy of Sciences in Nitra. The uniqueness of the fund lies in its diversity, it represents several species and types of archaeological finds documenting the settlement in a wide time frame. At the same time, it points to the period specifics of the wider Nitra and Horné Požitavie region. One of the rarest collection items is a set of bronze gilded plaques from Bojná. It is a unique representative collection, historically and artistically financially incalculable in value. It is a set of monuments of European format.
