The exhibition A case study of old Nitra presents the clothing culture of the urban environment of Nitra and material data of Nitra from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. It provides an insight into the rich history of clothing, period textiles, clothing accessories and hygiene standards from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The theme of the history of clothing is closely related to the presentation of housing of the upper social classes in the past and is presented through the “women’s world” of the ladies’ boudoir.
The exhibition presents a part of the collection of period textiles, which enriched the collection of the museum between 1975 and 1977. The collection mainly consists of women’s clothing items, such as blouses, bodices, jackets, social walking dresses or underwear. The collection includes fashion accessories, especially fans, parasols and hats, among which the women’s hunting hat and the art nouveau hat with ostrich feathers stand out. The collection mostly comes from Jozef Kozmovský.
The dominant part of the exhibition is the bourgeois type of women’s outerwear of black color from the Art Nouveau period. The garment is made of silk satin and chiffon. A second layer of black tulle lace with a vine pattern is sewn onto the silk base. The label of the manufacturer Rapkay Kálmán POZSONY points to a fashion salon of domestic provenance.
The clothes and accessories presented at the exhibition underwent a restoration process as part of the Clothing Culture in the Urban Environment of Nitra project. The implementation of the project Clothing culture in the urban environment of Nitra was supported from public resources by the Art Support Fund. The project is co-financed from the resources of the Nitra self-governing region.
