At the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries Vienna and Budapest set the fashion tone for the wealthy nobility and middle class. Nitra kept its provincial character in the given period. In its alleys there had been carefully arranged storefronts of smaller tailoring salons hidden. The trade in haberdashery and hats had flourished too. This is also proven by accessories and storeadverts installed in the exhibition spaces of Nitra Regional Museum, presenting a store with men’s, women’s and children’s clothing on (at the time) Viliam Tóth Street, owned by Jónás Ottó. A well-known tailor’s workshop in Nitra was owned, for example, by Weigl Antal, as well.
